Hello! As the title of this website implies, my name is Kimball Brooksby, and I’m a technical systems designer. Before we get to what I’m working on currently though, I’d like to tell you a little about how I got to where I am now.
I've always been very fortunate to have wonderful people around me. In my youth, my parents indulged me and my wildly shifting obsessions. I played every sport I could get my hands on, and studied everything from welding to medicine to music. Of all my interests though, only making games satiated my voracious appetite. When I picked up Unity in high school, my fate was sealed, and I have been making video games ever since.
Right now, I’m doing everything I can to expand my knowledge of game design and refine my craft. I want to craft experiences that reach people on an individual level and give them an opportunity to grow. I want to make people think, expand their horizons, and get them to see the bigger picture. I want to cultivate spaces where people can connect, and craft experiences that make them feel. I'm not looking to change the world, I'm looking to change somebody's world. I want to do for others what so many developers have done for me, and give back to the community that changed my world.
In pursuit of these goals, I've studied game design at the University of Utah’s Division of Games, co-founded the student game development company Monkey Barrel Games, and served as the vice president for the U’s affiliated game development club, Gamecraft. Since August of 2021, I’ve been involved in the development of 9+ independent game projects of varying size and complexity, many with a team of over 15 other developers, and have loved every minute of it.
To wrap up, I’d just like to express my gratitude for those that I’ve worked with and those that have supported me over the years. The lessons I've learned from those I've had the pleasure of interacting with and teaching in all my capacities will stick with me my entire life. Truly, I am grateful for the giants on whose shoulders I stand.
